Case Study

Delivering a Major Capital Project On Budget and On Schedule

Issue:

Tolko was installing a new Headrig saw. The building would have to be modified and the old one removed, a new foundation poured and the new equipment installed. A sister mill had missed their timeline due to avoidable delays by more than a month, costing millions in labor costs and lost production. The site urgently wanted to avoid this scenario.

Actions:

We pulled together a cross functional team to review and optimize the schedule. The team included the Project Manager, Electrical, Mechanical, Safety, Maintenance, Operations and leadership from each contractor. We scrutinized each step to determine if it was in the proper order, and if we were using the best available processes and techniques, and if what we were doing was safe. We ran ‘what if’ scenarios on high risk tasks and assigned actions to mitigate risks.

Results:

The project was delivered on budget and ahead of schedule with no safety incidents.
